Wimberly Market Days Booth 302 Remodel

Mr. Bob Bishop, our carpenter, did an amazing job on our both remodel located in Wimberly, Texas at Wimberly Market Days just a few miles outside of Wimberly town square on FM 2325.

Originally, we had hoped to add a layer of fresh paint and repair the leaking roof.  As soon as Bob started to work on booth, we realized that additional remodels were required to complete the job.  The original flooring was covered with carpet and once that was removed, we found out that the plywood was rotted and eaten by termites. In order for Bob to install a new floor, he had to reframe the structure so he could raise and replace the flooring.  He also added some steps outside the booths new  side and rear entrance.

Bob added trusses to strengthen the roof, removed and resealed all screws on rooftop, built a storage area with a ceiling and two doors.  He then installed two vintage wooden windows in two corners.  He also closed in two walls and added a door to rear wall.  He did a wonderful job and we are grateful for his expertise.  Below are images of the booths remodel and the first market day of 2014.
Wimberly Market Days is held the first Saturday of the month from March through December.  We are located just inside the third entrance at the corner of Lions Way and Wren Way.

We would love to see you.  Safe Travels and God Bless,  Ory

It is on Wren Way.

This is a shot of the wonderful job of
Priming the new wood done by my
Sister Joany.
You can also see the new steps into new entrance.

You can see the two doors of new storage area in left rear of booth.

We decided to build a storage area within one corner of interior booth to house goods rather than transport them to site each month.  The higher end product that will not do well stored in varying temperatures, is transported in each month.  We installed three new doors, two windows and a ceiling within storage area to keep out pests.  Remember, this booth is open to the elements.

Here are a few photos of the March, 2014 sale day!

Winter at the Grand Canyon South Rim

Some time ago we went to my precious niece's wedding in Arizona then took a trip  to the Grand Canyon.   I thought I would share some info with you in case you ever want to consider visiting the South Rim in Feb.  I only have info. here about the South Rim.  Our trip was in Winter and the roads in the canyon were open to vehicles.    The look out points are only accessible by shuttle starting on March 1st. You can literally walk out of your hotel take a shuttle to the shuttle stop and visit the specific look out points on the South Rim.  We stayed at the Eltovar hotel in the Grand Canyon Village.  The reservations during peak seasons are usually booked 8-12 months in advance.  We had no problem getting a room in Feb. although, we did book in Oct.   The restaurant requires reservations during peak season,  we did not need any in Feb. Turns out, access to the roads leading to the overview sit...

Lemon Icebox Pie

Today I made a Lemon Icebox Pie. I got the recipe from a cookbook published for Katy First Baptist Church's 100th Centennial Celebration. Its a breeze to make and quite delicious with a warm cup of tea. Whenever I have the opportunity to squeeze fresh citrus juices and freeze them for later use I do so. I utilized the lemon juice I had previously frozen for this recipe. I cheated and used a store bought crust. Here is the recipe: 1 can condensed milk, 1/2 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice, 2 egg yolks Mix all the ingredients on low speed with elec. mixer less than one minute. Put the ingredients in a precooked pie pastry shell(400 degrees for 10 minutes) and top with three egg whites whipped until light and fluffy. Whipped Egg White Topping: The egg whites should be room temperature and to the three egg whites you add 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar and two table spoons of sugar. Mix the egg whites until they form peaks and the sugar is dissolved. Once you have added the egg whites f...

Giant Swallowtail Butterfly

My backyard has citrus trees, lemon satsuma and orange, originally planted there not only to provide fresh citrus for my family but also to provide a host plant for the majestic Giant Swallowtail butterfly. Here is a photo of a Giant Swallowtail butterfly that I raised in captivity in my laundry room( in a zippered 14" x 30" columnar container covered in fine mesh), in order to protect it from predators such as wasps and birds when in the larval, caterpillar stage. Each day I misted the column with water and introduced fresh host plant material for the caterpillars to eat. The caterpillars in this photo of the mesh holding cage are the monarchs not giant. You can purchase these small insectaries from Insectlore.com or your local museum, zoo, or botanical gardens gift shops. The beautiful butterflies dance gently on the softest breeze and light ever gently on the tips of the new growth of leaves or on the top of a young leaf to lay their eggs. When the female lights on the ...
